Occupational Violence and Aggression Training

Occupational Violence and Aggression Training

Medical personnel are being exposed to rising levels of verbal and physical confrontations while performing their roles. Occupational violence and aggression (OVA) has become an increasing risk for front line staff and leads to increased costs for health service organisations.

According to a survey conducted by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation in 2018, 96% of Australian nurses and midwives reported experiencing verbal abuse from patients or their families, and 65% reported experiencing physical violence. A study published in the Medical Journal of Australia in 2019 reported that one in ten Australian doctors had experienced physical violence from patients in the previous year. Workplace violence and aggression can take many different forms. It can be pre-meditated or a spur of the moment action brought about by an intense emotional response, but the common outcome is that the health service provider is put into a high risk situation.

Pinnacle have partnered with Advanced Defensive Tactics (ADT), Australia’s leading provider of conflict management solutions for business and government to develop an industry leading OVA training program. This program provides health care workers and medical professionals with the skills and strategies required to effectively identify and de-escalate a potentially violent and/or aggressive situation in the workplace.

After completing our training program, participants will be able to identify pre-indicators of potential conflict, apply techniques to create space and time to remain safe, develop rapport with specific targeted communication, use verbal and physical cues to de-escalate the situation, and understand the methods to maintain a safe workspace.

We can tailor our training solution to meet your specific needs, whether you are a sole practitioner, working in a small to medium medical practice, or a large hospital. Our goal is to provide you with the best training experience possible.
